Stretch marks can occur in both men and women on various parts of their body, including the abdomen, thighs, hips, chest, arms and back.
They are scars that are created under the skin, as a result of the sharp tension exerted on the skin. When it is constantly stretched, the skin can break, creating what we call stretch marks on the outside.
This type of scars occur after pregnancy, weight gain, or sudden weight loss. Stretch marks often start as reddish or purple and then become shiny, making the skin look like it has silver or white lines
Stretch marks can also occur during adolescence, when the body often grows very fast. Boys may have stretch marks on their shoulders and back and girls may have stretch marks on their hips, thighs and breasts.
There are many different treatments for stretch marks. Creams, gels and moisturizing lotions are basically preventative, as they do not reach a sufficient depth to act. The effectiveness of each treatment depends on the type, color and the location of the stretch.
